At-a-glance: Westerly council votes, minutes and hearings from Dec. 1 meeting

At its Dec. 1 meeting the Westerly Town Council approved several procedural and legislative items and moved others to public hearing.

Votes and motions at a glance

- Noise Neck Road/CRMC: The council approved a resolution supporting the Coastal Resources Management Council’s possible designation of Noise Neck Road as a CRMC right-of-way (motion approved; no roll-call tally provided).

- Resolution 24/25-78 (insurance requirements): Council approved a resolution requesting Westerly’s legislative delegation seek a change to Rhode Island General Law 3-7-27 to include the town in certain insurance requirements; at least one councilor registered opposition on the floor prior to approval.

- Ordinances advertised for public hearing (Dec. 15, 2025): The council voted to order public hearings and advertise for (a) an ordinance repealing Article 2 (holiday sales) of Chapter 202 of the Westerly Code (state now repealed the holiday-license requirement) and (b) an amendment to Chapter 121 (fee schedule) — both were ordered for public hearing on Dec. 15, 2025.

- Minutes: Council amended and approved the Nov. 17, 2025 minutes after debate over verbatim wording; the motion to adopt the amended minutes passed with four votes in favor and two opposed.

Several other routine items were addressed on the consent calendar and the council suspended rules of procedure to consider new-business items at the meeting.
