The Milford Planning and Zoning Board on April 7 approved a special exception allowing an indoor softball training facility at 674 Naugatuck Avenue.
Applicant Jeanette Tierney told the board the 6,200-square-foot facility will operate primarily as a training space (four hitting cages) with reserved lanes scheduled through a Swift app; she said typical occupancy would be 10–12 people and that parents would be asked to drop off players rather than stay inside. The application was presented as a special exception under Section 3.10.2.7 of the zoning regulations.
City staff summarized the statement of use and confirmed hours of operation provided during the hearing. During board Q&A Tierney said the facility’s weekday hours would run about 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. and weekends 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; she said clinics would top out at about 10–15 participants.
During public comment Cassie Jago, who identified herself as a lifelong Milford resident and president of a recreational organization, said the business would benefit local youth and refurbish an existing building. After closing the public hearing the board moved to approve the special exception; the motion passed with all voting members in favor.
Chairman Quish concluded the item by wishing the applicant success.
