Presenter highlights Greer’s 150th anniversary, museum opening and planned laser show

A presenter at Greer’s 150th anniversary celebration said the city is marking the milestone with a yearlong lineup of events, highlighting a museum opening in January and a laser show scheduled for this week. The presenter called the gathering “a bash,” saying 150 years “is a big birthday and it deserves a big celebration.”

The presenter said the celebration has already included a new museum opening in January and that more events will continue through the year. “This is the week of the actual birthday, so this is the big bash and we'll continue to have events throughout the rest of the year,” the presenter said.

Describing the day’s attractions, the presenter listed classic cars, an aerialist, magicians, booths and guided tours, calling the offerings “a little bit of everything for everybody.” The presenter also announced plans for a laser show: “We're going to do a laser show.”

The remarks emphasized both Greer’s modern amenities and its historical character. The presenter said the town has “great restaurants and shopping” and that “when you step on the street, you feel the history,” adding that many attendees seemed to be local citizens while others had come from outside the area.

The presenter closed by offering a personal compliment to the town and thanks to residents: “I would love to live in this town. You guys are so lucky. This town is beautiful. Thank you for all of your kindness.”

Organizers say the anniversary program will continue with additional events throughout the year; the presenter identified the museum opening in January and the laser show during the birthday week as highlights.
