Commissioners asked whether lower‑cost metal doors or a keypad system would be viable; staff reported Regional Glass provided the only responsive quote so far and that Tom, the facilities lead, had attempted other vendors without success.
Members raised practical constraints: commercial exit doors must allow egress from the inside (push‑bar requirements), some keypad systems require Wi‑Fi or remote connectivity that the small building lacks, and county policy limits holding deposit funds or cash. Commissioners asked staff to obtain additional estimates, investigate keypad solutions compatible with push‑bar egress, and confirm auditor rules about holding uncashed checks as deposits.
The court also discussed operational issues: multiple people have keys that are not always returned after events, which creates recurring rekey costs; staff suggested changing locks periodically, adding a keypad, or instituting a deposit for key issuance, but cautioned about administrative burden if deposits require monthly claims processing.
No procurement decision was made. Staff said they will continue soliciting bids and will report back with additional cost and technical information on keypad compatibility and procurement options.
