Isanti City Council used its goal-setting workshop to identify priorities for the coming year: continuing conservative tax policy, completing sidewalk infill and street-lighting projects, sustaining staff retention efforts, and expanding public communications and community engagement.
Multiple council members celebrated recent tax-rate reductions (members referenced roughly a 22.5% reduction in recent years) and described stronger fiscal stewardship and improved public outreach, including a large increase in livestream viewership. Council praised staff retention and internal promotion strategies as a cost-saving approach and identified several community amenities completed or underway — a sledding hill, archery range, Bluebird Park accessibility work and the Illuminate project — as successful recent initiatives.
A council member proposed producing short videos showing city operations (liquor store operations, public works activities, police and water-plant overviews) using a local videographer at no direct city cost. Staff recommended drafting a policy governing city-produced content, staff consent to appear, and an approval pathway before public posting. Council members supported the idea and directed staff to draft a policy and to evaluate logistics and privacy/security limits before moving forward.
Other operational priorities discussed included bulk purchasing of consumables where storage permits, contractor-signup outreach (staff reported roughly 25–32 registrations), and continuing to schedule periodic departmental updates under the committee-of-the-whole format to allow more in-depth exchanges with department heads.
Council will consolidate these suggestions into prioritized goals and asked staff to prepare supporting materials for adoption.
