The Marion County Treasurer delivered the quarterly report at the court’s April 14 session, reporting total county funds of just over $9 million compared with $9.32 million at the same time last year and noting an overall sales tax increase of about 3%.
The Treasurer said the jail bond was finalized and that residual collections—$364,000 on March 17 and $94,000 on March 30—were credited back to jail fund 3018, producing an anticipated related revenue figure of roughly $458,000. The court heard that tornado-related federal funds had been closed out in January and that some balances were transferred to the road department.
Court members expressed concern that the county general balance is the lowest it has been in a year and discussed monitoring options. A member asked whether special-fund 90/10 rules applied to the unanticipated revenue; the clerk and Treasurer indicated the funds in question were already appropriated in the 2026 budget and not subject to the 90% rule. The court agreed to increase oversight and schedule additional reviews with the budget committee and to provide more frequent reporting.
The Treasurer said staff will prepare a report for the budget committee to review comparative revenues and disbursements year over year.
