Crookston approves cannabis application fee schedule; council discusses county oversight

The Crookston City Council voted Nov. 16 to adopt a resolution setting fees for local cannabis applications and registrations, a staff member said during the meeting.
Staff told the council that the city previously adopted an ordinance to regulate cannabis businesses and the resolution establishes a nonrefundable application fee of $50 and registration/renewal fees tied to state license amounts (an initial registration fee up to $500 or half the state initial license fee, whichever is less; a renewal fee up to $1,000 or half the state renewal fee, whichever is less).
A councilor warned that if the city did not adopt fees, the county could move to regulate cannabis applications and the city would lose local control. After brief discussion, a motion to adopt the fee resolution was called and passed on roll call; the clerk recorded members present and indicated the motion carried.
The resolution will be incorporated into the city fee schedule at a later date, staff said.
