The Harrisville City Council on Tuesday approved an updated legal services agreement intended to expand attorney availability for the city.
City staff presented the contract update, saying it adds another attorney partner so the firm can provide broader coverage while maintaining the same scope of services. "The scope of services is pretty much the same as we have been receiving," Jenny told the council, and she said the change provides more flexibility and availability for coverage and reviews.
Council members asked whether adding the second attorney would create conflicts of interest. The city attorney explained that conflict counsel procedures are in place and that other local attorneys would be used as conflict counsel when necessary. After brief discussion, a motion to approve the agreement was made and the council adopted the updated contract by roll-call vote.
The council did not change the substantive duties outlined in the contract; staff said day-to-day contact will continue to be with the primary city attorney and that the added attorney’s role is to ensure continuity of service. The staff packet attached the revised agreement and named both Brody Flint and Matt Wilson as partners in the firm.
Council members said the expanded coverage should reduce scheduling conflicts and provide consistent legal support for routine city business.
