The Atwater City Council unanimously approved a resolution to amend the budget to allocate funds for a citywide traffic-signal synchronization study covering 18 intersections. The project was previously approved in June 2023 but the line item was not carried into the current fiscal-year budget, a finance staff oversight the council was told.
Finance Director Nichols explained the funds remain available and the amendment is a bookkeeping step that allows staff to expend the previously authorized amount. Councilmembers asked when a completion date would be available; staff said the contract anticipated a completion timeline and that staff can return with a status report and schedule.
Council voted unanimously to approve the resolution following a brief public comment period in which no members of the public addressed the item directly. The council did not increase the project's total appropriation beyond the amount already authorized; Nichols said the funding source is Measure V rather than the general fund.
