Superintendent announces principal appointments and several retirements

Superintendent Mr. Geis reported personnel changes at the April meeting, announcing two principal appointments and multiple upcoming retirements that will create assistant-principal openings.
Geis said he was “pleased to appoint Ms. Shontai Johnson as the next principal at Starlington Middle” and asked her to stand; Johnson received applause. He also announced the appointment of Ms. Annie Pittman as the next principal at Woodlawn Elementary, noting Pittman has been Woodlawn’s assistant principal for 11 years and will replace Jane Biggs, who will transition to director of elementary schools.
Geis also announced retirements that will prompt hiring: Carolyn Norris, long-time principal at Carroll Elementary, has announced her retirement; Mr. Brazier and Mr. Pennington are retiring at Good Hope; Tady Bailey at Claiborne Elementary will retire. The superintendent said the district will post openings for the resulting assistant-principal positions.
Board members applauded the appointments; no formal vote on appointments was recorded in the meeting minutes.
