Board member Mr. McCoy moved the naming resolution and reviewed Martin’s career accomplishments, saying Martin led Richwood to multiple state championships, 12 district titles and — by Mr. McCoy’s account — a career record he summarized as 750 wins and 230 losses. The board voiced strong support; the motion was seconded and carried with no opposition.
The board and audience applauded as Coach Martin took the podium. “I am honored and overwhelmed,” Martin said, thanking his wife, Audreana Martin, colleagues and the community for their support. He described his time at Richwood as a calling and said he was grateful to have had the opportunity to guide student-athletes on and off the court.
The board framed the naming as recognition of Martin’s contributions to the school and the region’s athletics; several board members noted his record at Richwood, the number of players who went on to college play and his reputation for mentoring students. Mr. Como and other board members praised Martin’s leadership and character before the vote.
The motion carried unanimously. The board did not set a formal date for a dedication ceremony during the meeting.
