Mission director asks Clarksburg council for help redirecting opioid funds to vehicle needs

During public comment at the April 16 meeting, Desi Underwood, director of The Mission, asked the Clarksburg City Council for direction on redirecting opioid‑related city funds.
Underwood said the organization received opioid funding in 2024 to purchase minivans used to transport residents but that a July 2025 application for salary support was denied as outside the city’s opioid‑funding criteria. She said the group later applied for renovation money but contractor timing problems led them to use other ERC funds. Underwood told the council one of their cargo vans “is hanging on by a wing and a prayer,” and asked whether the organization should resubmit the request or treat it as a new application.
City staff advised that the cargo van could qualify under the program and that the group should reapply as a new application or work with staff to resubmit the request; staff offered to hold a meeting within a few days to review the request. Underwood said she would follow up with staff.
No formal council action was recorded at the meeting; staff next steps were discussed verbally during the public comment period.
