Bargaining group agrees to rewrite collaboration-time language; teachers urge keeping it teacher-driven

Several teachers pushed back, calling the current rules "micromanaging" and urging that collaboration time remain teacher-driven rather than converted into an administrative meeting slot.
A common interest emerged: simplify and clarify the collaboration-time language so that it supports both teacher-driven professional work (grade-level planning, shared curriculum development, PLCs) and necessary district-directed large-group activities, while limiting paperwork requirements that participants said are burdensome.
Members asked district staff to prepare a redline or straw revision to section 1.17 for the April 29 meeting so bargaining representatives can review a draft. Teachers asked that any revision preserve substantial teacher-driven control over the content and use of the time.
Next steps: district staff will prepare draft language; the bargaining team will consider the draft on April 29.
