State’s new data prompts New Providence to re-evaluate affordable housing allocation

Allen Swansson, who identified himself as living on Overhill Road, asked about the status of the affordable housing calculation and whether the borough would accept the state’s number. He said the deadline was approaching and asked where the borough stood.
The mayor and staff responded that the borough’s planner informed borough staff that the DCA released additional data after initial fourth-round calculations, and the planner must re-evaluate the land-capacity figures and site identifications. ‘‘She sent an email to Bernardette… the state put out more new data which has caused her to go back to the drawing,’’ the mayor said. The council said it had not received the planner’s final report and would share the analysis with the public when it is completed.
A member of the public noted a League of Municipalities webinar explaining the fourth-round methodology and said the recording would be made available; attendees also said different state divisions post different datasets and that iterative changes are expected.
The council did not announce a numerical determination at the meeting. Council members urged patience until the planner’s written analysis is completed and promised to post the report once available.
