Committee declines stop'sign and traffic control requests after staff warrant review

The Middleton Public Works Committee voted to accept staff's recommendation April 13 not to install stop or yield signs at three requested locations, finding the locations did not meet the city's warrant criteria for traffic control.
Staff told the committee the review considered posted speed (25 mph), three'year crash history (none recorded at the locations), traffic volumes and sight distance; the locations failed to meet the combination of measures that would justify signed control under city policy. The examples included Camille Trail at Misty Valley Drive and Spring Hill Drive at Lind Street.
A committee member said petitions or additional signatures from neighbors would prompt a re'evaluation. Staff agreed to notify petitioners of the outcome and to provide information about the neighborhood traffic management plan, which includes non'regulatory options.
The committee voted to accept staff's recommendation by voice vote.
