The Mid Kings River Groundwater Sustainability Agency on Tuesday approved a first amendment to agreement 24‑01 with Geocentex that adds roughly $196,500 for expanded public outreach services.
Staff member Chuck told the board the original contract covered engineering and GSP preparation and that the additional scope is intended to increase public engagement and improve the agency’s chances of a favorable state review. "We've made significant progress in the creation of policies, programs, and updating the GSP," Chuck said, explaining the need for increased outreach. "We need to do better at outreach with the public."
Board members moved and seconded the amendment and a roll call vote recorded ‘yes’ votes from Richard Valley, Doug Bourbon, Rusty Robinson, Robert Theer and Kimber Regan. The motion passed.
The amendment authorizes the contractor to provide outreach services tied to the GSP, well registration and community workshops that staff said are intended to help landowners meet state reporting deadlines and understand the GSA’s programs.
The board did not specify a separate implementation schedule during the meeting; Chuck said staff will proceed with the additional outreach work once the amendment is executed. The meeting packet listed the supplemental cost as approximately $196,500.
