The North Little Rock School District Board of Education voted to approve a package of new and revised policies and the 2026–27 parent-student handbook at its regular meeting.
The board approved action item 12.1 (new and revised policies) by voice vote after a motion and second. The board later voted to adopt the 2026–27 parent-student handbook (action 12.2); staff said the handbook will incorporate the newly adopted policies and that communication to families will be distributed via email, social media and registration channels.
The meeting opened with a public comment from John Lyn, who urged trustees to approve the pending policy and raised budget questions. "The policy is just a thin wrapper around the law," Lyn said, urging the board to "just vote yes." He also raised concerns about district spending on substitutes and professional services compared with peer districts.
Board members and staff described the policy development process: a policy development committee drafts changes, LPPC and CPPC provide licensed/classified review when appropriate, and ASBA model policies are used as a baseline in some cases. Staff said the district will post drafts and accept feedback through a centralized policy email; Miss Pat was named as the staff contact who manages incoming public policy feedback.
Board members asked for clearer public access to drafts and for staff to mark major changes in policy documents. A clerical correction was noted during the meeting: the state testing schedule item had been listed on the agenda as an action but is an information item and was removed from the action list.
The board also approved the consent agenda and a request by trustees that monthly budget reports be provided going forward with fund-account totals and a year-to-date column.
The board will return policy materials and the handbook to public view on the district's platforms and encouraged parents to review highlighted changes; staff said they will include links and outreach at school open houses.
The meeting adjourned after votes on personnel matters taken following an executive session.
