Design Review Board approves awning, sign and rebranding changes for downtown businesses

The Alpharetta Design Review Board on April 17, 2026 approved three local storefront and monument sign requests that affect downtown appearance and several commercial corridors.
58 Canton Street (new Mediterranean restaurant): Owner Meline Matar told the board the applicant intends to replace the current awnings with hunter green fabric and antique‑gold lettering, and paint doors and window frames to match. Staff and the board discussed a pre‑cast area above the awning that showed wear; the applicant agreed to coordinate repairs with the landlord and HOA. The board voted 6‑0 to approve the awning and paint as presented so the business can open.
Dolce Spoon (corner monument sign): The applicant’s representative, Taha, described a circular HDU sign to be mounted to existing posts. Board members asked for a reduced backing panel (from 48 to 30 inches), centered placement of the circular disc so it appears to float above the supporting posts, a trim detail at the top and bottom of the backing panel, ground cover at the base and that final color chips be approved by staff. The board approved the monument sign with those conditions (unanimous).
Chevron (Old Milton Parkway): A representative for Chevron presented a brand‑swap package to change canopy and pump imaging to BP. The company will use flat decals on the canopy and specified that only the BP logo on the canopy will have a halo backlight; pump skirts and valances will get brand panels. The board conditioned its approval on changing an existing red band on the property’s monument sign to the Brookside green used in nearby village signage; the motion passed 6‑0.
The board’s votes included several staff follow‑ups: applicants must supply final color chips and, where required, work with property owners (for example, the loft HOA) on façade repairs. All three matters passed without public comment.
