Davenport — The City Council read and adopted a proclamation declaring April 19–26, 2026 as National Library Week in Davenport and invited residents to visit library branches and use library services.
Alderman Holloway read the proclamation highlighting libraries' roles as community hubs that connect people with technology, education and programming. After the proclamation was approved by voice vote, Tom Engelman, president of the library board of trustees, thanked the council and gave usage statistics: "In last year alone, 25,000 people attended over a thousand programs and community members borrowed more than half a million items from the library," he said. Engelman also said more than half of Davenport residents have a library card.
The proclamation and the board's remarks took place during the committee meeting; the proclamation directs residents to celebrate library services during the week of April 19–26.
