East Brunswick Board of Education enters six-hour closed session

The East Brunswick Board of Education voted at the start of its meeting to enter a closed session estimated to last six hours, citing matters permitted under the New Jersey Open Public Meetings Law, the board said.

The board chair asked for a motion to move into closed session and, after it was made and seconded, the board approved the motion. The clerk announced that the session would be governed by NJSA 104-12B and that no formal action would be taken while the meeting was closed. “We are enclosed and we will be back in six hours,” the chair said.

Before adjourning into closed session, the clerk read the statutory notice required under the New Jersey Open Public Meetings Law and confirmed that meeting notice had been posted and provided to local media outlets. The clerk also reminded attendees that board meetings are videotaped and that videotapes are not edited for any purpose.

The board opened the public comment period and invited members of the public to speak under the board's three-minute rule; the clerk reported that no one stepped forward and the chair closed public comment before the motion to recess. The board said the public meeting will reconvene after the estimated six-hour closed session and that no actions would be taken while the meeting is closed.
