Santa Ana outlines $185 million in public-works projects, schedules library reopening and utility coordination

He walked the council through completed and near-complete projects (El Salvador Park restroom and field upgrades), the Centennial Park expansion with a dog park slated for ribbon-cutting, the new splash pad at Portola Park, the police training facility additions, and progress on the Memorial Park aquatic center.
Rosas said the city’s main-library renovation is proceeding and that the council has budgeted approximately $23.9 million for the project; staff expect substantial completion by July (as presented). On the Bristol and Warner street projects, he and staff described multi-phase work that will add lanes, protected bikeways and underground utilities. Regarding utility coordination for pole removal, staff said undergrounding depends on negotiations with Charter Communications and other providers; one segment’s poles are anticipated to be removed in June 2026 and others later this year as utilities complete their relocations.
Councilmembers praised the pace of work, thanked staff, and asked for more granular timelines and updates on contractor procurement for upcoming bids. The council also approved routine consent items related to fleet purchases and a security-services contract as part of the meeting’s consent and action items.
What’s next: Staff will return with project schedules, bid approvals as required, and follow-up on specific pole-removal segments tied to utility coordination. Several items on the consent calendar that were pulled for discussion were later approved by council vote.
