Hackettstown Board approves $3.43 million in bills, multiple contracts and grant application

The Hackettstown Board of Education on April 15 approved the district bill list of $3,428,203.68 and a cafeteria bill list of $2,786.09, accepted Secretary and Treasurer reports for the month ended March 31, 2026, and certified there were no major over-expended accounts as of March 31, 2026.
The motion to approve the business, personnel and education items was made by board member Mr. Moore and seconded by Ms. Hibler and carried in a roll-call vote; Ms. Cavanagh recorded an abstention on the item approving use of facilities for extra and co-curricular activities. School Business Administrator James Schlessinger presented the financial items and read the statutory certification required by N.J.A.C. 6A:23A-16.10(c).
Alongside routine bills, the board approved several service contracts and operational items included by reference in the meeting materials: designation of American Legion Post 164 as a reunification site; an out-of-district placement and tuition arrangement with Rutgers Day School for a named student; and a revised contract with InSite for mental-health services. The board also authorized disposal of damaged or lost media (listed by title in the packet), approved planned fundraisers, and accepted a summer-sports-camp proposal that directs a portion of proceeds to school athletic programs.
The board authorized staff to apply for the Funding for Optimal Comprehensive Universal Screeners (FOCUS) competitive grant (Continuation Year 2), with allocations to be awarded if the district is selected. No dollar award for the grant was recorded in the minutes.
No additional vote tallies for the April 15 package were recorded in the minutes beyond the single roll-call result; where specific vote counts were recorded earlier in the meeting (approval of March minutes) the minutes show that motion carried 5–0 with one abstention.
