Committee approves amendment to Feb. 4 minutes after roll-call vote

The Concord-Carlisle Regional School Committee voted to approve an amendment to its Feb. 4 meeting minutes after a roll-call vote Tuesday.

Committee member Michael proposed adding content he said was discussed but not reflected in the original minutes — a roughly five-minute conversation involving multiple committee members about using the town’s reporting system to assess policy efficacy. Michael said he provided his proposed edits to the committee after the meeting so members would have context for discussion. “Presenting minutes like this for revision really calls on us when we see minutes coming back,” he said.

Committee members debated whether the amendment had been circulated publicly in a way that complies with open-meeting law. Tracy said she had sought guidance from the town clerk and had contacted the attorney general’s open-meeting division for clarification. A committee member cited advice from the Massachusetts Association of School Committees (MASC) and stressed that minute amendments must be made in public.

The board conducted a roll-call vote on the amendment; the chair announced the amendment was approved as presented. The meeting record shows at least one abstention and one recorded “nay,” and the chair directed staff to forward the revised minutes for posting.

The committee did not take further formal action on the subject at the meeting. The committee’s next regular meeting will revisit outstanding procedural items as needed.
