Granville Mayor Lewis told the Monongalia County Commission April 15 that representatives from the state Division of Abandoned Mine Lands shared mapping that indicates a good possibility AML emergency funds could be used to repair a rock slip on EMTT Drive.
"There is a possibility, a good possibility that the AML emergency funds would cover the cost of repairing that slip," the mayor said, adding that officials still need to select an engineering firm to develop a remediation plan for state approval. He said the mapping will be presented to commissioners in an executive session so staff and commissioners can better understand the problem area.
Mayor Lewis said he had set up interviews with engineering firms that answered the county's RFQ and expects to do those within two to three weeks. He cautioned that the situation remains preliminary because officials do not yet know the full scope of work until engineers evaluate the site.
Commissioners thanked the mayor for the briefing and agreed that reviewing the maps in a closed session would help them prepare a plan for state review and potential AML funding. No commitments of county matching funds or a construction timeline were made at the April 15 meeting.
