Ulster County’s Laws, Rules and Government Services Committee unanimously approved Resolution 148 on March 12 to authorize the chair to execute a lease extension with Higginsville Station LLC that adds approximately 594 square feet of training and storage space for the Board of Elections.
Board of Elections staff said the expansion will increase total BOE space to roughly 1,415 square feet and will be used for classes, voting‑system testing, inventory and hand recounts. Staff described a busy training calendar: "We are doing anywhere between 50 to 70 trainings a year" with class sizes of about 15–25, and said the additional space will reduce the need to juggle equipment and allow larger or more frequent sessions.
Commissioners said the space will also be useful for election preparation, storage, and hand audits. The resolution sets the rent at $14 per square foot and recalculates the building's common fee allocation to reflect the BOE's increased occupancy. The committee adopted the lease extension unanimously.
Next steps: the chair will sign the lease extension and staff will proceed with setup and scheduling for the incoming training and storage space.
