City water crew replaces 15-foot section after Truth or Consequences water main break

The official said crews mobilized before sunrise, assessed the damage and prioritized restoring pressure and service for residents and local businesses. "We know water outages and low pressure can be frustrating, especially for residents and local businesses," the official said.
Crews excavated a trench to access the damaged pipe and deployed hoses, pumps, two trucks and two generators to clear the trench and stabilize the repair site, the official said. Workers removed the compromised pipe using a chainsaw, measured a 183-inch segment (15 ft 3 in) of 12-inch main to be replaced, and staged two yellow ROMAC couplings designed for high-pressure connections to secure the new piping.
"Restoring service after a major line break isn't just technical. It's a hands-on mission powered by skill, grit, and teamwork," the official said. After removing the old pipe, crews found a long jagged crack stretching roughly 12 ft 9 in along the main, a fracture the official said highlighted the urgency of the response and the importance of the repair to protect surrounding infrastructure.
The city said the new couplings and replacement segment restored structural integrity to the line and moved crews closer to reestablishing full service to the affected area. The official thanked residents for their patience and trust while crews worked through the night.
The City of Truth or Consequences did not provide a separate timeline for full system testing or a public estimate for when all affected customers would have normal pressure; the statement emphasized that crews were actively working to return service.
