Tammy Smith, director of Parks & Recreation, told the council about a series of spring events and program developments intended to engage families and park users.
Key upcoming activities: Smith outlined the April 25 community cleanup (9–11 a.m.), a Trailways event at Leonard Park with music and a 35-foot yarn art project, and opening-day baseball/softball festivities. She also described a Mother’s Day tea (May 2) at the municipal center and a "Princess on the Plaza" event on May 8.
Grants and funding: Smith said the parks department received a $1,000 reimbursement grant from the Trailways Association to support distribution of certified bicycle helmets for children (ages 3–8) and that OSCNA donated additional helmets. She reported a $2,500 Maybore Realtors Community Grant has replaced a lost concert sponsor and fully funds the planned summer concert series.
Facilities projects: Smith said the fitness court layout at Leonard Park has been finalized and playground procurement is moving toward bid solicitation in the next several months. She asked for continued cooperation on park rules (on-leash requirements, no dogs on ballfields) following several ordinance violations on shelter reservations.
Next steps: Parks staff will proceed with procurement for the playground and fitness court and will distribute information about volunteer sign-ups and helmet availability for events.
