Council holds first reading of ordinance adding no-parking zones near Founders Square and Main Street

Grant Kleinhens presented Ordinance 1426 on first reading, which would add no-parking restrictions on four roads: Founders Square Drive (no parking at all times), portions of 16th Street, the east side of Green Lawn Street between 10th and 11th, and the south side of 11th Street from Winton to 11th Street Court. Kleinhens said some of the locations already have signage and the ordinance would memorialize the long-standing restrictions in the town code.
He noted that some changes are tied to race events at the nearby Indianapolis Motor Speedway and that the ordinance’s race-day references are intended for event periods, except for Founders Drive which would be restricted at all times. Kleinhens described the item as a proposed first reading and said the council would take public comment or concerns prior to a final vote at the April 27 meeting.
No final vote was taken at the April 13 meeting; council members were invited to contact staff with concerns before the scheduled final consideration.
