Council approves $12,315 quote to clean large stormwater vault

Grant Kleinhens, town manager, presented a recommendation to approve Fluid Waste Services Inc.’s quote to clean the large BMP (best management practice) stormwater vault that diverts runoff to Dry Run Ditch. Kleinhens said the vault is approximately 24 feet wide by 35 feet long and about 12 feet deep and requires periodic cleaning; three quotes were solicited and the recommended option totals $12,315.
Kleinhens explained the cost drivers include hauling and landfill fees for removed sludge, which he said account for roughly 30% of the cost. He told the council the work is expected to take about a day and will be charged to the stormwater budget as a capital maintenance expense.
Council briefly discussed access points and the maintenance process. After discussion, the council approved the quote by a 5-0 voice vote.
Next steps: the town will schedule the contractor, document the condition with photos, and post any permitting or traffic-control notices as needed.
