Director Fernandez gave an overview of an updated work plan with anticipated completion dates for park-evaluation items, calls for art, community events and a proposed timeline for projects such as selecting a gallery theme and issuing calls for art. Fernandez said the document with dates (examples included June, August and a November milestone) would be circulated after the meeting for commissioner review.
Staff also reviewed meeting procedures: quorum rules for the six-member commission (quorum = four), the distinction between special presentations and action items, the requirement that a motion is needed when the commission is asked to "recommend" an item, and how public comment and clarifying questions are handled. Staff warned that state law changes will require remote public-comment accommodations after July 1 and described prior remote meeting abuses as a rationale for careful procedures.
Commissioners discussed scheduling a parks tour to review the city’s parks and facilities. July was favored for daylight and participant availability; staff agreed to circulate date options and treat the tour as a meeting night so more commissioners can attend. Staff also reminded commissioners that background checks for volunteering with Parks and Recreation are coordinated by Recreation Supervisor Bronson.
Staff said there was no formal action required on the work-plan update at this meeting and that more detailed agenda items could be brought back if the commission wants to make a formal recommendation.
