Commissioners said the study will include pedestrian counts near Campbell Park and the school, review signing needs and consider speed-management measures, and should be scoped so recommendations can be considered for the next budget cycle. One commissioner said the study should be completed within about 30 days after any related construction is finished.
The commission did not set a funding amount but asked staff to collect quotes from engineering firms to include in budget planning. Staff indicated the city’s usual process includes count data, crash history review and recommendations on treatments (speed humps, speed tables, signage or sidewalks). The commission noted any speed-hump installation must consider emergency-vehicle clearance and neighborhood impacts.
The commission will return the study scope, estimated cost and proposed timeline to a future meeting for final approval.
