Commission recommends rezoning four parcels to match comprehensive plan; petitioner thanks commission

The Anchorage Planning and Zoning Commission on April 13 recommended that the Anchorage Assembly approve a rezoning request affecting four parcels (roughly 10 acres) so the zoning conforms to the adopted land‑use plan.
Planning staff told commissioners the parcels were identified in the municipal comprehensive plan for commercial use and that the rezone would eliminate special limitations created under an older code. The department concluded the rezone meets the three approval criteria and placed a draft assembly ordinance in the packet.
Property owner Joyce O'Connor addressed the commission: “My name is Joyce O'Connor and I am the owner of the property and I thank you for considering my request to change the zoning.” No members of the public registered opposition during the hearing for this case.
Commissioner Polis moved to recommend approval to the Assembly; Commissioner Gardner seconded and the commission carried the motion. Staff noted the Assembly will be the final decision authority and that additional technical permitting would be required for any future development on the parcels.
The recommendation will be forwarded to the Anchorage Assembly for its public hearing and final vote.
