"In 8 days we had 27,000 cars go by there," the superintendent said, noting that much of the traffic includes students driving and multiple daily arrival/ departure cycles.
District staff said the city has also engaged a consulting firm to evaluate the intersections at School Street with Cloverdale Boulevard and at North Street and Cloverdale Boulevard. That firm's recommendations will inform whether the district pursues partial street closure, traffic calming, new signage, intersection changes, or other measures to reduce risks for students arriving on foot and in cars.
Trustees asked follow-up questions about daytime versus after-hours volumes and whether football-game or event traffic influenced counts; staff said they are working to isolate school-period counts and will return with the city's report to guide any policy or operational change.
What's next: staff will provide the city-contractor's intersection study and a recommended next step to the board for consideration. No formal action on closure or traffic changes was taken at the meeting.
