Residents urge Franklin Township to support Immigrant Trust Act; mayor agrees to place resolution on next agenda

Tony Faber, who identified himself as a resident from Scotch Plains, described recent immigration enforcement actions he called abusive and asked the council to pass a resolution to separate local government operations from federal immigration enforcement. He said the proposal would bar immigration activity in hospitals and schools and protect people seeking services.
Katherine Hunt, a member of a neighboring township green team, and Franklin resident Javon Walker made similar appeals, urging local leadership to act because the state legislature had not advanced the measure. Speakers said the resolution would protect workers, students and people seeking public services.
Mayor Kramer said the Immigrant Trust Act request had slipped off the agenda amid the election and attendance at the League of Municipalities and that he would discuss the request with council; he said he expects the item to appear on the next agenda but no formal motion or vote occurred at the Nov. 25 meeting.
No council vote or ordinance was recorded on the item; residents and councilors will have an opportunity to debate and vote on any formal resolution if it is added to a future agenda.
