Dr. Heidi, who reviewed the drawings with the commission, said the plan calls for a total of 12 decorative lights, "about six and six on each side," and that power for the lights would come from the Alma intersection with a dedicated meter for the district. She said the decorative lights match the Old Orchard fixtures previously discussed and that final construction plans will be produced once the design enters the bidding phase.
The commission discussed the review timeline and oversight: Modot/MoDOT and a regional grant reviewer (referred to as MODAT in the meeting) will review the plans because the project is grant-funded. Staff said comments on the first-round submission are due immediately and that an additional round will follow once reviewers submit notes. The commission agreed staff should compile one consolidated comment set rather than multiple, duplicate submittals.
Logistics and budget: Members asked for printed and PDF copies to facilitate markups; staff offered to upload a PDF and coordinate Bluebeam-style electronic comments. The commission also confirmed that the $20,000 request for lights is included in its budget package that will be forwarded for council consideration as part of the FY27 process.
Next steps: Commissioners will review and return comments to staff for compilation; staff will forward the consolidated comments to the county and follow up on any MoDOT input.
