Ivy Stockwell students demonstrate leadership skills in Amazing Shake presentation to board

A group of fourth- and fifth-grade students from Ivy Stockwell Elementary presented their student‑created Amazing Shake leadership project to the Thompson School District Board on April 14. Principal Justin Blick introduced the students and explained that they created their own scripts and slides as part of the club experience.
Students described practical skills taught in the program — firm handshakes, introductions, eye contact, dressing professionally and persuasive speaking. "Amazing Shake is a national student leadership competition created by teacher and author Ron Clark to teach professionalism and communication skills," student Chloe Cis told the board. Student participants said the program builds confidence useful in future interviews and civic life; one student said learning to tie a tie was a favorite lesson.
Board members praised the presenters’ poise and suggested ways to expand outreach to other student groups. "It's amazing how many adults do not have those skills. You guys are starting out at a very young age," Board member Lori Goel told the students.
Ending: The board invited the students for a photo and members offered to support future participation and logistics.
