Montgomery County Fiscal Court on Nov. 19 approved two items tied to the county Senior Citizens Project: a one-year extension of a $750,000 grant and an updated lease agreement that added $1,250,000 in committed funding for the senior center at 107 East Locust St., Mount Sterling.
The court approved a contract modification extending the $750,000 grant’s expiration from Dec. 31, 2024, to Dec. 31, 2025. Later in the meeting the court approved an updated lease with Gateway Area Development District for the senior-center property and added $1,250,000 in committed funding to that lease. Both votes carried.
A department head introduced as Miss Wilson briefed commissioners on the county’s obligation schedule and said county staff needs to obligate remaining funds by Dec. 31 to avoid having to return federal or grant money. "So we're going to be looking really strongly at any obligations that we need whether it's bids or quotes to get all of our money obligated by December 31st of this year," she said.
Officials said the senior-center extension and the added lease funding are part of an effort to ensure larger projects — including the senior center and sanitation district work — are in compliance with funding timelines. The court did not discuss extra conditions attached to the grant extension or the precise breakdown of the $1.25 million in this meeting.
