Historic Preservation Commission announces training, conference and Section 106 role on 13th Street Bridge project

At the April 14 meeting, Davenport City staff used the communications portion of the agenda to highlight three items of local interest to preservation commissioners.
First, staff announced an "Understanding Historic Preservation" training and networking series hosted by the Butterworth Center at the Dear Wyman House in Woline; the first session is Thursday, April 16 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., registration is free and the session will include a short break and light refreshments. Staff asked commissioners to encourage public attendance and noted registrants are coming from Clinton and other Quad Cities communities.
Second, staff reminded the commission that the Preserve Iowa summit will be held June 2–3 in Ankeny, Iowa. The city offered to pay registration for interested commissioners but will not cover lodging expenses.
Third, staff reported that the 13th Street Bridge project, adjacent to East Davenport, has added the Historic Preservation Commission as a consulting party under Section 106. Staff said they will keep the commission informed as the project develops and will provide opportunities for the commission to offer public comment through the Section 106 review process.
All three announcements were presented during the communications section; there was a brief commissioner question about parking for the Dear Wyman House event, and staff confirmed free parking on a lot south of the property (south side of 11th Avenue).
