At its June 17 meeting the Harlan City Council passed a string of routine business items in a series of roll‑call votes.
Consent agenda and claims: The council approved minutes from the June 3 meeting and a claims list labeled 1340 totaling $94,868. The consent agenda also included the HMU sewer and landfill reconciliation report for May 2025, statistical reports for May, and FY25–26 cigarette/tobacco/nicotine/vapor permits. Retail alcohol license renewals for Dollar General (store 25409) and Harland Golf & Country Club were included on the consent agenda and were approved.
Public safety intergovernmental agreement: Council renewed the annual joint participation agreement with SWIPCO to continue SWAT service for July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026; staff said it is the same agreement used in prior years and the motion carried on roll call.
Events and closures: Council approved a street‑closure order for the Shelby County Fair Parade on July 10 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., using the same parade route as in previous years.
Appointments: Council confirmed multiple board appointments and reappointments: Jeff Moser (Parks & Recreation, term to July 1, 2029), Lisa Hegmire (library board, term to July 1, 2029), Andy Lind (library board, term to July 1, 2029), Kaylee Coleman (to complete Susan Finn’s remainder of term on the library board through July 1, 2027), Doug Hammer (Board of Adjustment, term to July 1, 2029) and Ruthanne Grimsley (Board of Adjustment, term to July 1, 2029). Each nomination was moved, seconded and approved by roll call.
