School committee approves senior New York City trip for April 2027

Presenter Miss Podette described the itinerary — Midtown walking tour, United Nations headquarters, Grand Central Station, Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island, a harbor boat ride, guided sightseeing including Greenwich Village and a Broadway show, and a possible visit to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. The trip would use an EF tour package and include a train ride from Providence; the presenter said lunches were included in the package and fundraising would be used to reduce out-of-pocket student costs.
Miss Podette provided cost estimates: if 30–40 students enroll, the per-student cost would be about $1,668 (roughly $132 per month over 12 months). She noted the price increases if fewer students participate. The tour operator requires a 10:1 student-to-chaperone ratio; additional chaperones beyond that ratio would incur costs.
After clarifying questions about chaperone ratios and fundraising, the committee moved and unanimously approved the trip. Committee members who voted were recorded on the roll call.
The district will proceed with parent outreach and a parent committee to coordinate fundraising and registration.
