The meeting opened with student recognitions across grade levels. Mr. Meredith introduced junior-high Student of the Month Bryley Fix and high‑school Student of the Month Ryan Wildman, the latter praised for library work and historical research that uncovered 34 earlier area schools. Mrs. Hey then announced April Students of the Month in kindergarten through sixth grade (Mia Crumb, Emma Campbell, Cameron Simpson, Ellison Spangler, Selene Crumb, Writer Hansford, Juliana Shell) and invited them forward for photographs.
The board also recognized Derek Kennel for receiving an Indiana School Board Association advanced individual award for exemplary governance and professional development in 2025. Superintendent Cons. congratulated school leaders and staff, and highlighted that Southwestern Elementary was among a very small number of schools recognized at the statehouse for literacy achievement — the superintendent said the district was 'one of three' schools with 100% passing on the I-Read in 2025.
No formal board action was required for the recognitions; remarks were celebratory and administrative.
