Board honors student artist and names two Purple Star Schools; lists spring events

The Jackson County Board of Education recognized student Jackson Leroy for athletic and artistic achievements and announced district recognition for two Purple Star Schools.
Board members highlighted that Jackson Leroy created cover artwork for the district magazine Our Time in 2024 and was selected again for 2026 artwork. The student spoke briefly and introduced family members; the board took photos and praised both his athletics and art. "I don't have nothing prepared," the student said, then described family members who attended.
The board also announced that Bridgeport Middle School and Skyline High School received Purple Star School recognition, a designation intended to identify schools that support military families. Representatives from those schools came forward to receive banners. The board noted that Hollywood school previously earned recognition and encouraged other schools to pursue the designation so military families see local supports when considering where to live.
During announcements the board also listed a series of upcoming events — varsity baseball tournament, a regional civics bee, Exceptional Olympics (with backup weather date), the school play Annie Jr., Jackson County Music lessons, First Southern Bank event, math competitions, an Impact Luau fundraiser and a military enlistment recognition night — and invited community attendance.
