Fire Chief David Parenti to retire March 31; deputy named acting chief April 1

Board members requested a broader outreach, including a national posting, and asked the consultant to provide timing and cost estimates for a wider search.
To maintain continuity, Deputy Chief Esposito was appointed acting fire chief, effective April 1, under a temporary appointment consistent with Massachusetts practice: the acting appointment includes a short-term stipend and preserves the deputy’s benefits and rank upon termination of the acting assignment.
Next steps: the consultant will continue recruitment and run an assessment center; the town expects a multi-week process with finalist assessments and recommended candidates to the board in the coming months.
