The city manager told the council April 7 that Yuba City is planning a two-day Independence Day event tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary: fireworks on the evening of July 3 at the Marysville river bottoms and a family-focused event on July 4 at the Yuba City fairgrounds featuring entertainment, a car show and a drone show.
Robert Bendorf said the fireworks operator’s availability required moving the fireworks to July 3 and that Marysville will handle the fireworks contract. “It looks like the fireworks will happen on Friday, which is the 3rd of July,” he said, and described the July 4 drone show at the fairgrounds as tentative but moving forward under interjurisdictional cooperation. He added that the drone operator contract was pending and that all participating jurisdictions and local partners, including Beale Air Force Base, would contribute to the event.
Bendorf said the fairground portion of the event would be family-friendly and non‑alcoholic, with entertainment running late afternoon into the evening. He said he had the drone contract and would proceed within his authority unless councilors raised objections.
No budget totals were specified in the public comments or staff presentation at the council meeting. Bendorf indicated the contract work was underway and that participating jurisdictions would share costs as arranged.
