Ashboro board recognizes student chef, instructional facilitators and Shift Ed–Toyota partnership

The Ashboro City Board of Education opened Monday’s meeting with a series of recognitions for students, educators and external partners.
Sandra Spivey Ays introduced Bailey Morton, a fifth-grade student at Balfur Elementary, who won this year’s district "future chef" competition. Bailey described her winning creole shrimp and grits and accepted a certificate from the board.
Dr. Wendy Rich highlighted the district’s instructional facilitators, describing them as coaches and mentors who "strengthen instruction, build teacher capacity, and ultimately support better outcomes for students." The board called several instructional facilitators by name and recognized their contributions across schools.
District staff also thanked Shift Ed for its role managing the Driving Possibilities grant and supporting the launch of the Toyota Experience Lab. Shift Ed representatives — including Steve Russell and Amanda Roseman — spoke briefly about the partnership and the early stages of a multi-year collaboration.
Anthony Woodard, the district’s chief information officer, recognized students who participated in a District 4 Drone Soccer Championship hosted at Elon University; district staff credited NC State University and Elon University with planning and support that helped students advance toward national competition.
No formal actions resulted from the recognitions; the board presented certificates, invited partners to speak and celebrated student achievements.
