City Manager Perene briefed the committee on Measure LL and district staff described Measure O during the liaison meeting.
"This measure, if approved by voters, would increase the hotel tax from 10% to 14%," Perene said, adding that it is a general‑fund tax projected to yield roughly $2.1 million per year in additional revenue under current projections. He said the measure would require independent oversight — similar to the committee that reviewed Measure GG — and that revenues must be spent locally.
Perene clarified who would pay: the tax applies to guests staying in local hotels, not to residents, and the city has about 11 hotels with roughly 1,600 rooms. He also noted an independent poll conducted earlier in the year showed about 64% favorability for the measure. Perene said the city attorney advised against an exemption for local residents because creating an exemption could raise legal issues.
On Measure O, district staff described "21st‑century learning" upgrades the measure would fund: modernized classrooms that blend books and digital resources, improved technology infrastructure to support STEAM and hands‑on learning, upgraded HVAC and safety features (such as perimeter fencing), and newer instructional equipment. Staff said these changes aim to keep facilities competitive with neighboring districts and to support blended learning models.
No public comments were recorded on the measures at this meeting. Staff offered to provide additional information and to answer community questions in future outreach and presentations.
