The Urbana Park District board voted unanimously on April 14 to award design services for King Park OSLAD (Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development) improvements to Farnsworth Group of Champaign.
Staff explained the award follows the board’s August 2025 adoption of the King Park master plan and a subsequent OSLAD grant award. The Farnsworth Group contract covers surveying, design development, construction documents and bidding support for $86,220; the firm’s construction-administration services were approved as a not-to-exceed $25,650. Staff recommended a 15 percent contingency, producing a combined contract authorization of $118,870. A commissioner moved to award the contract and the motion passed unanimously.
Staff noted that improvements along Lincoln Avenue were not part of the OSLAD grant application and therefore will proceed as a separate project and funding stream to avoid grant billing and reporting issues. Budget planning in the packet shows approximately $1.22 million projected for the King Park improvements from capital funding across multiple years; staff aim to advertise bids in winter and target construction in spring–summer 2027.
The contract award authorizes survey and design work to begin immediately so the project can move to bidding and construction on the stated schedule.
