Board honors spelling‑bee champion, greenhouse donor and school resource officer

Jean Classerman of the Marshalltown Garden Club presented a $1,000 check to Marshalltown High School teacher Tara Gray to help purchase a self‑watering system for the school's greenhouse. Classerman described the club’s long history of local support and said the group is pleased to help the operational startup and plant sales planned for late April and early May.
Eric Weeden, the district’s safety, security and facilities manager, introduced School Resource Officer Logan Wolf and described the SRO’s work since 2022, saying Wolf’s “relationship building far exceeds arrest when applicable” and praising his involvement in programs like esports and Silver Cord volunteer coordination. Officer Wolf and city police leaders thanked the district for the partnership and said they look forward to continued collaboration.
Board members also recognized the counseling team across grade levels and an Emerson employee donation of backpacks and hygiene items, which district staff said will be distributed to students in need.
