BET approves $8.2 million interim appropriation; RTM to consider special Feb. 4 meeting

The Board of Estimate and Taxation voted 12–0 to approve an $8.2 million interim appropriation for the Old Greenwich School renovation project, the Old Greenwich School Building Committee reported to the Representative Town Meeting. Committee chair James Waters told the RTM that the project has been taken to bid and construction is slated to begin in April 2026.
“Tonight the BET voted 12–0 to approve an interim appropriation of $8.2 million for the Old Greenwich School renovation project,” James Waters said. He added detailed project information will be provided in advance of the RTM’s special meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 8 p.m. in the same room; district meetings and a joint meeting will be held beforehand.
Waters said the project has been put out to bid and that more information will be distributed to members in the days ahead in advance of the special session. The announcement prompted procedural reminders about district meetings and deadlines for call submissions; the moderator confirmed the special meeting will be the venue to debate and vote on the interim appropriation.
The RTM did not take a final vote on the appropriation during the regular meeting; the special Feb. 4 session is the next step for formal action.
The building committee’s notice to the RTM said construction is slated to start in April 2026, and the committee will provide detailed materials to the RTM before the special meeting.
