Oakdale council adopts consent items: recycling grant accepted, donation approved; proclamations issued

The Oakdale City Council approved several consent and routine items April 14, including acceptance of a Washington County municipal recycling grant and adoption of ceremonial proclamations.
Andy Gizoff, community development director, briefed the council on the county recycling grant for 2026 totaling $53,364. Gizoff said the grant supports municipal recycling expenses, public education, dual-stream recycling bins for parks and programming such as the citywide cleanup and a clothing swap. The council adopted Resolution 2026-20 to accept the funds and then voted to authorize the city administrator to execute the grant agreement.
The council also accepted a $500 donation from a resident for the Summerfest parade and approved Resolution 2026-18 to accept the contribution. The transcript contains inconsistent spellings of the donor's name in the packet and in remarks (appearing as "Andy Morome" and "Nandy Morham"); the meeting record shows the donor recused from the vote. The council accepted the donation by voice vote.
In ceremonial business, the council proclaimed April 17–23, 2026 as National Pet ID Week, urging microchipping and ID tags for pets, and proclaimed April 25 as the city's Arbor Day and promoted the annual tree giveaway. Mayor Zabel thanked volunteers and the treeboard and recognized outgoing treeboard chair Nick Canola for a decade of service.
Other consent items adopted by voice vote included minutes, routine approvals listed as consensus motions A through I (which included a treeboard appointment to maintain full membership) and the claims roster covering vendor payments. Council adjourned at the close of the meeting.
